A suicide bomber attacked a court in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, on Tuesday, killing 12 people and injuring 27 others. This is the first attack on civilians in Islamabad in ten years, and it has shocked the country. The attack has also increased tensions between Pakistan, Afghanistan, and India.
The bomber tried to enter the court building but could not, so he exploded near a police vehicle outside. Local media showed cars damaged and people lying on the ground covered in blood. Some of the wounded are in serious condition, according to hospital sources.
In a separate attack, a military-run school in Wana, in northwest Pakistan, was targeted by militants. A suicide vehicle rammed the school entrance, killing three people. Hundreds of students were trapped, creating panic. Authorities said the attackers were in contact with their handlers in Afghanistan.
Pakistan’s Defence Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, called the attack a “state of war.” Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the attackers were based in Afghanistan and accused India of supporting them. Pakistan has warned that it may act if Afghanistan does not stop the militants.
India strongly rejected these claims, calling them “baseless and unfounded.” The Taliban administration in Kabul also condemned the attacks and denied that Afghan territory is used for attacks on other countries.
Experts say the attacks may be meant to spread fear in society. Retired General Muhammad Saeed said the terrorists are backed by powerful countries and are trying to show that Islamabad is not safe. Analysts also warn that new militant groups may be trying to hide the Pakistani Taliban’s involvement while still carrying out attacks.
This attack marks a worrying increase in violence in Pakistan. Civilians, schools, and courts, which were once considered safe, are now being targeted. Pakistan faces the difficult challenge of protecting its people while dealing with tensions with neighboring countries.
The government and security forces are investigating the attacks, but so far no group has claimed responsibility. Pakistan’s people hope for stronger measures to prevent such attacks and ensure safety in the capital.
