The railway authorities have announced important changes to train services passing through Kottayam on September 20 and 21, 2025. The changes come as part of routine maintenance and track improvement work aimed at ensuring passenger safety and smooth train operations. Travelers planning to travel through Kottayam are advised to carefully note these changes and adjust their schedules accordingly.
Key Changes in Train Schedules
Several prominent trains running through Kottayam will be affected. Passengers may experience changes in departure or arrival times, diversions along alternate routes, or additional and skipped stops to accommodate the maintenance work.
This train will follow a diverted route through Alappuzha, bypassing its usual stops at Chengannur and Kottayam. To help passengers, extra stops are being added at Alappuzha and Ernakulam. Travelers are advised to take note of these changes to avoid confusion at the stations.
The Thiruvananthapuram – Chennai Egmore Express will also be diverted to travel via Kottayam. This means the train will skip some scheduled stops, including Ernakulam Junction, Cherthala, and Alappuzha, but it will include new stops at Kottayam and Chengannur for passenger convenience.
This train will be rerouted between Kayamkulam Junction and Ernakulam Town via Kottayam, skipping the usual stops at Alappuzha and Ernakulam Junction. Temporary stops will be available at Kottayam and Ernakulam North. Passengers are encouraged to check revised timings.
The Superfast Express from Chennai to Thiruvananthapuram will be diverted between Ernakulam Town and Kayamkulam Junction through Kottayam. The train will skip its usual stops at Ernakulam Junction and Alappuzha, but additional stops will be provided at Ernakulam Town and Kottayam.
Passengers on this train should note a delay of approximately one hour due to maintenance work.
Why These Changes Are Needed
The railway authorities have emphasized that these adjustments are necessary to maintain the tracks and improve train safety. Kottayam is a busy junction, and maintenance work here helps prevent delays, accidents, and ensures smooth travel for passengers throughout the region. Regular upgrades and inspections are vital to the safety and comfort of travelers.
Passenger Advisory
Travelers are advised to:
Check the revised train schedules before traveling.
Arrive at stations earlier than usual to avoid missing trains due to altered timings.
Follow the railway staff's instructions at diverted stations for guidance.
Plan journeys in advance if additional stops or skipped stops affect their usual route.
The railway authorities have reassured passengers that all changes are temporary and are implemented to enhance the overall travel experience. The new schedules will be in effect only for the dates of September 20 and 21, 2025, and normal operations will resume after maintenance work is complete.
Passengers are encouraged to stay updated and confirm their travel details before departing. With careful planning, travelers can avoid inconvenience and have a safe journey through Kottayam and other affected stations.
