China Seeks Public Feedback on Proposed US Tariff Cuts Covering $30 Billion in Trade

Post by : Saif

China has begun seeking feedback from businesses, industry groups and local governments on proposed reciprocal tariff reductions with the United States covering approximately $30 billion in bilateral trade.

The move marks another step in the implementation of a trade framework agreed by Beijing and Washington after both countries paused their tariff dispute and committed to improving economic cooperation.

Consultation Process Underway

China's Ministry of Commerce said it is collecting opinions from domestic companies, business associations, local governments and US business organisations regarding the proposed tariff reduction arrangements.

Officials said the United States is also conducting a similar consultation process before finalising the tariff-cut framework.

Trade Board Continues Discussions

According to the ministry, Chinese and US officials have maintained close communication on the structure, functions and operating model of the China-US Board of Trade, which was established to oversee implementation of the trade agreement.

The Board is expected to play a central role in identifying products eligible for tariff reductions and strengthening long-term trade cooperation.

Tariff Cuts Could Cover $30 Billion in Goods

The proposed framework is expected to reduce tariffs on goods worth around $30 billion, following a trade truce reached by the world's two largest economies.

Earlier this year, Chinese officials confirmed that agricultural products would be included among the sectors considered for tariff reductions.

Aim to Expand Bilateral Trade

Chinese officials said both governments intend to finalise the detailed arrangements as soon as possible and move forward with implementation to encourage greater bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

The proposed tariff reductions are expected to ease trade costs for businesses while supporting commercial exchanges between the two countries.
