Maruti Suzuki Reports Quarterly Profit Decline as Higher Input Costs Weigh on Earnings

Post by : Saif

Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest passenger vehicle manufacturer by sales, reported a decline in its first-quarter profit as rising raw material costs continued to pressure earnings despite strong revenue growth.

For the quarter ended June 30, the automaker posted a net profit of ₹33.52 billion, down from ₹37.12 billion reported during the same period last year.

Revenue Rises on Improved Vehicle Sales

The company recorded revenue of ₹524.56 billion, representing a 36% year-on-year increase.

The improvement was supported by stronger vehicle demand as India's automobile market continued recovering following tax relief measures introduced last year.

Maruti Suzuki also implemented price increases during the quarter to partially offset higher manufacturing costs.

Expenses Grow Faster Than Revenue

Despite higher sales, the company's total expenses climbed 40.5% to ₹499.88 billion, exceeding the pace of revenue growth.

Higher prices for steel and other raw materials significantly increased production costs, reducing overall profitability.

The company was unable to fully pass these additional costs on to customers.

Commodity Prices Continue to Pressure Margins

Maruti Suzuki said rising commodity prices and supply chain disruptions continued to affect operating margins.

The company, like several global automakers, has been dealing with higher manufacturing costs as fluctuations in global commodity markets have increased the cost of key automotive materials.

Automobile Industry Faces Cost Challenges

Although demand for passenger vehicles remains relatively stable in India, manufacturers continue to face pressure from rising production costs and global supply uncertainties.

Industry analysts say automakers will continue balancing pricing strategies, production efficiency and cost management while responding to changing consumer demand and market conditions.

Maruti Suzuki remains the country's largest carmaker and continues to monitor market conditions as it navigates a challenging cost environment.
