Air India has begun inspecting the fuel control switches on its Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft after a pilot reported a possible problem with the system. The airline took this step as a safety precaution and informed Boeing about the issue for urgent review.
According to an internal memo, the concern was raised when a pilot noticed something unusual with the fuel switch mechanism on one long-haul aircraft. Fuel control switches are very important because they manage the flow of fuel to an aircraft’s engines. Pilots use them during engine start-up, shutdown, and in rare emergency situations during flight.
So far, the inspections have not found any defects across the fleet. Air India officials said the checks will continue, but there is no need to ground the Dreamliner fleet. The airline operates 33 Boeing 787 aircraft, which are mainly used for long international routes.
The airline’s engineering team has taken the matter seriously and escalated it to Boeing for priority evaluation. Boeing has confirmed that it is supporting Air India during the review process. This shows coordination between the aircraft maker and the airline to ensure safety standards are fully met.
This issue has drawn extra attention because fuel switches were linked to a tragic Air India Dreamliner crash last year in Gujarat, where 260 people lost their lives. That incident led to stronger safety checks and closer monitoring of aircraft systems across the airline. As a result, even small warnings from pilots are now treated with high importance.
On Monday, Air India also confirmed that one Dreamliner was temporarily grounded after the pilot reported the concern. Such actions are common in aviation and are meant to prevent risks before they turn into serious problems.
Aviation experts say routine inspections and quick responses to pilot reports are signs of a strong safety culture. Airlines around the world regularly inspect key systems, especially after past incidents, to maintain passenger trust and flight safety.
For passengers, Air India has reassured that flights will continue as scheduled and that safety remains the airline’s top priority. The ongoing checks are meant to confirm that all aircraft systems are working exactly as they should.
